In November of 2011, at a time when Interfaith’s food pantries were nearly bare, a community initiative was created to support Interfaith and their need for food. Chief Executive Officer, Karla Grimsley, along with Commissioner Mike Amsden, Gerald Ergle and other community leaders, proposed a plan in order to keep the Interfaith shelves stocked all year long. A plea was directed to local churches, businesses and organizations to commit to a food drive for one week or month each year. Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen amazing amounts of food pour in from our local partners. Some groups choose one week and proudly deliver hundreds of pounds of food, while other groups chose an entire month, and increased the bounty. We also have groups that choose to provide hygiene items, which is also a great need for our clients. Interfaith is grateful for every can, bag and box!
Beginning in January, we’re asking our community partners to come forward again and fill our 2014 calendar! If you would like to commit to a food drive with your group – please contact Karla at 629-8868 x25 or 209-7045. You can also contact Sonya at 629-8868 x33.
We have just the tools you need to help you with your food drive. We have flyers with our most needed items and great yard signs to put in front of businesses. We also help advertise for your food drive on our Facebook page! And, when the time comes to collect the food, we can schedule a pick up time (although some folks love to drop off their donations and take a tour of the Warehouse while they are here!).
We want to make it easy for you to join the Interfaith team! Together, we can bring the harvest all year long, to help those in our community in need.
