Walk a Mile in My Shoes
Sept. 14, 2019

Interfaith’s Walk a Mile in My Shoes event is coming up on September 14th, 2019.  We welcome you to join us on this annual walk like no other.  This walk will change your perspective on homelessness.  Participants get to experience the conditions, for just a few minutes, that many people experiencing homelessness live with day after day.  This year you can raise sponsorships and compete for prizes or you can simply walk with a $25 donation.  All proceeds benefit our sheltering programs.

Here's how it works:

  • People commit to walk 1 mile and solicit sponsorships of any amount for their walk or simply make a donation of $25.
  • Participants arrive at the starting point and surrender their shoes and select a pair of donated shoes. (sizes not guaranteed)
  • Participants carry their personal shoes in a plastic bag and may carry a cardboard sign.
  • Participants walk 1 mile down Silver Springs Blvd to the Interfaith’s Center for Life (108 N Pine).
  • Proceeds support Interfaith’ s homeless shelter that serves women, children and families.
  • Prizes are awarded to those who raise the most money!

    This year’s prizes are:

    1st – youth kayak

    2nd – Schwinn Bicycle

    3rd – $100 cash!

For regular updates visit our Facebook page at Walk a Mile in My Shoes 2019.

Our goal is $25,000!!

Registration begins at 9:00am and the walk starts at 10:00am

The starting point is the parking lot between Brick City Church and Save the Day Spa at  901 E. Silver Springs, Blvd., Ocala,  FL  34470.

Who can walk?

Everyone is encouraged to participate!  Because this is a fund-raiser for our homeless shelter we challenge each walker to collect at least $250 in donations from your friends and family to sponsor you (that’s just $25 from 10 people you know).  However, no one will be excluded from the walk for any reason.  The top 3 walkers who raise the most money for Interfaith above $250 will receive prizes!  1st prize is a Paddle Board, 2nd prize is a spa treatment and 3rd prize is a gift-card to a local restaurant.

How do I collect the money?

A form to track your donors is available HERE and on our Facebook page. Donors can make a check payable to “Interfaith Emergency Services” OR pay with cash OR make a payment with a credit or debit card online by clicking HERE. Be sure to have them put your name in the comment box so we know it’s for the walk and that you get the credit! We will have the total amount that came in online to sponsor you at registration. Bring all the money you’ve collected to the event and turn it in at the registration table before you walk.

Where can I park?

You can park at the back of the parking lot where the event begins (901 E. Silver Springs, Blvd., Ocala, FL 34470) or you can park behind the Center for Life building (108 N. Pine Ave.) where the event ends. We will have shuttles to take people to the starting point (and we’ll shuttle people after the event back to the starting point). We encourage as many as possible to park at the Center for Life. There is plenty of parking behind that facility.

Can we walk as a team?

YES! We would love to have local businesses and service clubs support this event by having a group from your organization walk a mile together.

Do you need volunteers?

Yes!  If you are interested please contact  Karla Grimsley at 352-209-7045.

Want a help spread the word for our event?
